Wellness Care and Cat & Dog Vaccinations

wellness care

Advanced Veterinary Care Clinic recommends you regularly bring your pet to the vet for a thorough wellness examination, and cat or dog vaccinations if needed. The health exam involves checking your pet’s systems, one at a time. This type of preventative care helps us to work with you to assure that your pet continues to enjoy good health. If there are health concerns during regular exams that could potentially cause problems, we can recommend proactive treatments.

During wellness examinations, we will take time to show you ways in which you can monitor your pet’s well being. One example might be how to check for inflammation or wax and debris build up in the ears, and how to keep them clean.

The annual checkup includes a physical exam, fecal analysis, and any cat or dog vaccinations that may be due. The veterinarian may also suggest flea and tick preventives or heartworm medicine, as needed.

As smaller pets age, they’re prone to ailments such as kidney disorders. For this reason, we recommend annual blood work beginning around 6 years of age. Early diagnosis is the key to providing effective treatment.

The Importance of Cat & Dog Vaccinations

Vaccinating your pets is not only the most responsible way to keep them safe from often fatal diseases, but it also protects your human family as well. Some diseases, such as Leptospirosis, can be present in your pet without presenting visible signs of infection. Diseases like these are contagious, not only to other animals, but humans as well. Your health, as well as your pet’s health, is at risk if your pet is not vaccinated.

While a very small percentage of pets might experience some negative reactions to vaccinations (e.g. muscle pain, low-grade fever, lethargy, or lack of appetite), it normally lasts just a few days. In these cases, we can evaluate the components and make adjustments to follow up vaccinations. Don’t let this deter you from having your pet vaccinated in the future. Your pet’s health depends on being protected from major illnesses that can cause far worse consequences than a few days of discomfort. Modern day vaccinations are safer and more effective than ever before. If you have any questions or concerns about vaccinations, or your pet has any negative reactions to a vaccination, make sure to discuss it with us so that we can work together to make adjustments and customize a plan for your pet.
